Alta Bikes

Scandinavians are always streamlining design. From furniture to cars to vacuum cleaners, our blond friends to the north certainly know a thing or two about eye-catching and functional products. Now they are adding single speed bikes to that list, and it's probably just because they got tired of riding and looking at everyone else's. The product of a Norwegian graphic design studio, a furniture design studio, a group of product designers, and an advertising agency; Alta may be the the most thought out, carefully planned, and über marketed bike ever to hit the streets.

Nice at it is, the bike has a definite Euro price tag on it. $1,033 is pretty steep, but to be the first in the hood to hail Norway it could be worth it. The frame itself has some similarities to the Cannondale Capo (see the rear triangle) and a fork like that on the Raleigh Rush Hour. The bikes niche (besides it's country of origin) may be its stock bullhorns with front and rear breaks. The bike is light, around 20lbs and even comes with its own wall mounting system.

Oh, And that ad agency that worked in conjunction with the project, well, they came up with some scary stuff.
